SV Restless

Sandy on deck, from the same time... starboard side trimmed, port yet to be done. Fitting those bulwark sides was one of the more trying aspects of the metal work; they're 3/16" cor-10, which is pretty tough, and I fit them from staging around the outside of the hull. Trying to clamp them in to the curve without scratching up the already polished bulwark supports and stanchion bases, which are integral, meant for some difficult approaches, and I was constantly worried that one would get loose and hit me in the chest and knock me right down the 14' to the floor. It did happen, but never knocked me off. Working alone in an isolated warehouse did force me to think about such things. The stanchions are 3/4" sched 80 type 316, since polished and electro polished, and are massively strong. There's a stainless disk at the bottom of each socket, and that disc is welded to the hull, so again, no rust. Next
